Exercise to Firm Sagging Thighs After Weight Loss

Loose skin is an unfortunate side effect of the great achievement that is weight loss. While fixing loose skin by opting for expensive surgery might seem like a quick, easy solution, exercise is a far better alternative. As mentioned by bodyfatguide.com, a few exercises have a positive effect on skin elasticity: with enough time, patience and of course, exercise, your skin can rebound.

Weight Train

    Many weight machines like the hip adduction and pulley machines at gyms can be used to specifically increase muscle mass for your inner and outer thighs. When using weights, first assess how many pounds you can handle: you should not struggle doing three repetitions (reps) in a row. If you do, lower the weight. If you feel little to no resistance, add weight.

    If you are comfortable with the weight amount, do reps of 10. Ideally, do a minimum of five reps, but do not exceed any amount where you feel pain (just a deep burn).

Consider Pilates

    Balance exercises in programs like yoga and pilates usually rely on the thighs for support, making them excellent candidates for tightening loose skin. Holding some of the poses and going through the leg lifts will work not only your thighs, but your stomach, glutes (butt muscles), and arms, too---all of these areas may also have saggy skin from weight loss, so it is a good idea to target many areas at once.

Perform Leg Circles

Your left leg should experience a nice stretch; the knee should not touch the ground. Focus your weight in the heels and not the toes to avoid foot strain. Hold the pose, taking deep breaths while you wait 15 seconds before switching legs.

Considerations

    Unfortunately, hitting the gym for several hours a day and eating a healthy diet will not immediately cure sagging skin. Since it took so long to stretch out the skin during the weight gain, it could take an equal amount of time to tone the skin.     A way to help ensure results is to develop a regiment which incorporates these muscle-building exercises. For example, weight train for 15 minutes, and then spend an additional 10 minutes on lunges, 10 on inner leg circles. Keep track of your workouts for a visual representation of your hard work.
