How to Treat Dimples on Wood Floors

How to Treat Dimples on Wood Floors

Moving heavy furniture, such as refrigerators and pianos, can leave dimples, or dents, in your wood flooring. The effect can be dramatic. The damage needs repair, but before you go to the trouble and expense of sanding the dimples out and refinishing the floor, you can try to restore the surface with a few household items and a little of your time. Most dents in wood flooring respond to a combination of moisture and heat.

Instructions

    1

Using a pin, poke a small hole in the floor's finish in the center of the dimple. This will allow your treatment methods to penetrate the finish and reach the wood.

    2

Apply water to the dimple. A small dimple may only require three to five drops of water. Larger dents need more water.

    3

Apply heat from a soldering iron to the dimple. This will help the wood fibers absorb the water and raise the grain. Place the soldering iron close to the floor's surface, but do not allow the tip to touch the wood.
